The main protagonist of Pulse is Mel Seivers, a 31 year old Cardiothoracic Surgeon who uses sex for fun rather than emotional attachments. However, she does have a calling side to her and it can be seen on occasion.

The second protagonist is Lynn Wiles, a 21 year old college who is full of life and incredibly thoughtful but sadly suffers from a heart disease that has put her in and out of hospitals her whole life. She is a patient at Mel's hospital.

The main antagonist of Pulse is Sue Whickers, a 31 year old who becomes the director at Mel's hospital and also happens to be her ex.
